Meet Theresa Riel

Theresa Riel, a devoted…

Community Advocate.

Parent. Educator. Learner.

I have lived in Midtown Tucson since 1988 . I act with strongly held values of community and community advocacy that have developed through participating in neighborhood associations, volunteering with non-profits, teaching mathematics learners at all levels, and chairing the Pima Community College Governing Board for two years.

I taught for over 35 years in southern Arizona, the last 23.5 at the East Campus of Pima Community College.

I helped organize and fight against unhealthy, commercial rezoning efforts in my residential neighborhood. I am a street representative for my neighborhood association and its President for the last 4 years.

I have volunteered at all of the schools my children attended; teaching the 4th graders how to knit during their Arizona History Month; organizing golf tournaments and fundraising events for Rincon/University Marching Band; and leading Family Math Nights at schools throughout the city.

I was on the Board of LPGA Amateurs, running events and playing lots of golf.

I advocate for persons experiencing homelessness and I supported their needs by cooking delicious and healthy meals for the women at Sister Jose Women’s Center every other week for more than four years. I am a Big Sister with BigBrothersBigSisters of Southern Arizona.

Since being elected to the Pima Community College Board of Governors from District 2 in November 2023, I have traveled to Washington DC and Phoenix to talk with our elected officials to advocate for the educational needs of our citizens.
